SCALEFINISHES.COM APPLICATION GUIDE
Using Scalefinishes paint.

ALWAYS wear a respirator during use.
ALWAYS test for compatibility before use.
PRE-THINNED no further thinning should be necessary.
All colors clean up with Lacquer thinner.

PRIMER
Scalefinishes primer is lacquer based.
If further thinning is required, Thin with Scalefinishes Primer reducer.
Air pressures will vary with different airbrushes, painting styles and temperature. I recommend around 20PSI as a starting point.

APPLICATION
Apply 2-3 medium wet coats. Allow 5-10 minutes between coats. Let the final coat dry 30-40 minutes before top coating.
A light sanding of 800 grit, before painting, is recommended.

BASECOATS
Scalefinishes colors are solvent based Acrylic Basecoats and require a clearcoat to achieve a gloss finish.
If further thinning is required, Thin with Scalefinishes Basecoat reducer.
Air pressures will vary with different airbrushes, painting styles and temperature. I recommend around 20PSI as a starting point.

APPLICATION
1. Apply 2-3 medium wet coats plus a drop coat.
2. Allow 5 minutes flash time between coats.
3. Allow to flash 15-20 minutes before clearcoating.
4. If not clearcoated in 7 days scuff sand basecoat and reapply.

DRYING Air Dry Times at 70°F
Dust Free 10 minutes
Tape Free 15-30 minutes
To Apply Clearcoat 15-20 minutes

SANDING OUT IMPERFECTIONS
To sand out imperfections after 15 minutes, wet sand 600 grit or finer to remove dust, dirt and to level surface. Must rebase with one or two coats of basecoat.

GLOSS ACRYLIC ENAMELS
Scalefinishes gloss Enamels are Automotive grade Acrylic Enamels and do not require a clearcoat.
If further thinning is required, Thin with Scalefinishes Enamel reducer.
Air pressures will vary with different airbrushes, painting styles and temperature. I recommend around 20PSI as a starting point.

APPLICATION
1. Apply 2-3 light even coats.
2. Apply a mist coat to even out metallics.
3. 10-15 minutes flash between coats.

DRYING
Air Dry Times at 70°F
Dust Free - 40 minutes
Tape Free - 6 hours
Light handling - Overnight

BUFFING
If necessary, sand with 1500 or finer grit paper after 24 hours and polish. Buff with the appropriate compound after 48 hours. Buffing is easiest when done within the first 72 hours following application. Take care in sanding and polishing single-stage metallics. Aggressive sanding can distort metal appearance.

CLEARCOAT
Scalefinishes clearcoat is an automotive grade high gloss Acrylic enamel.
If further thinning is required, Thin with Scalefinishes Enamel reducer.
Air pressures will vary with different airbrushes, painting styles and temperature. I recommend around 20PSI as a starting point.

APPLICATION
1. Apply 2-3 light even coats.
2. 10-15 minutes flash between coats.
3. Can be handled safely after 24 hours.

BUFFING
If necessary, wet sand with 1500 or finer grit paper after 24 hours and polish. Buff with the appropriate compound after 48 hours. Buffing is easiest when done within the first 72 hours following application.
